Program Description

UVA Logo SquareAs contract and subcontract managers, we deal with subcontracts everyday. We manage them as part of a prime contract. We follow them as part of a supplier relationship. But what are the business issues that need to be addressed as part of the subcontract development process? What decisions must be made to ensure the appropriate agreement is struck between the two organizations?

This seminar will peek behind the terms and conditions to the underlying business relationship that is supported by the subcontract. What do business leaders look for in a good subcontracting relationship?  How can you better serve your organization as a subcontract administrator by more closely aligning your work with the needs of the organization?

By the end of the seminar, you will:

  • Describe the types of subcontract relationships
  • Discern the business needs that get met through the subcontracting relationship
  • Challenge your internal teams to enter into the subcontract relationships best suited for meeting business challenges
  • Discover the risks and rewards of subcontracting
  • Learn how to effectively manage subcontract relationships

Bonus Offer!

Although not required for this seminar, we are offering attendees a chance to purchase Dr. Wangemann’s book, Subcontract Management. The book analyzes the subcontracting process and business issues from both the prime contractor and subcontractor perspectives. The 500 page textbook describes the process that each organization goes through to find each other, determine the relationship, form the subcontract, manage the relationship, and close out the subcontract after completion of work or cause. It is used as the textbook for UVA’s Advanced Subcontract Management course. It is available for purchase at the discounted price of $50.
